Magnesium: the most powerful migraine & stress reliever?

Who wants to feel super-energized for Summer??

Eating fresh can easily slip & late nights can creep in….does that sound familiar??

Me too, so this month I’ve set myself a little challenge to feel deeply nourished…because everything feels better when we feel energized!!

Actions lead to results, and actions don’t have to be crazy big…just consistent!

One of the actions I’m taking is to up my greens to get all the benefits of the increased magnesium (amongst many many other benefits!)

This powerful mineral is completely natural, and is really important for so many functions in the body.  But, why do we actively need to make sure we’ve got magnesium in our system?  Stress revvs up the nervous system, and uses up magnesium.  Making our need much greater.  If you are stressed, drink coffee, or feel over-worked, you need to up your magnesium intake.

There are over 3,000 medical references on magnesium deficiency that can be linked with:

  • migraines
  • Anxiety
  • Constipation
  • Adrenal fatigue
  • PMS
  • diabetes
  • thyroid trouble
  • PCOS
  • hair loss
  • bone density

Magnesium is wonderful for our hormones:

  • Insulin – magnesium helps with blood sugar control
  • Sleep & recovery – magnesium calms our nervous system & helps prevent excess cortisol
  • Muscle repair & energy production – magnesium is intimately linked with cellular energy production
  • Activates Vitamin D – which is important for bone health
  • female health – regulating progesterone & relieving for PMS & menopause

If you have a refined or processed diet, there is a big chance that you may be deficient in magnesium. Some things actively reduce our magnesium levels, such as caffeine & prolonged stress.

The fabulous news is you can get magnesium in abundance from whole foods, such as:

  • collard greens
  • Nuts
  • Avocados
  • Parsley
  • Garlic
  • 80% + dark chocolate

EATING THE RAINBOW OF FRESH VEG IS THE WAY FORWARD!

Magnesium needs its buddie (co-factor) B6 in order to be absorbed.  So my advice is always to eat the rainbow, a varied diet, to get all of your nutrients in.

The best magnesium supplement?

The lovely news is, in plants, the vitamins that are needed to support each other for absorption are often found together in the same plant.  But, we do need to be aware if we are picking supplements, CHECK it isn’t one vitamin on its own in a bottle, because this isn’t how it is found in nature, and it can struggle to be absorbed fully.

Personally, when choosing to supplement magnesium, I love fem balance.  It has magnesium & B6, as well as other female hormone balancing vitamins (there is also a mix for Men too!).

If you are wondering if you need a top-up of magnesium, let’s have a chat to see if fem balance is right for you.  The benefits of magnesium can be felt quickly!
